I was using ChatGPT the other day to help me with a legal document. I asked it how I could upload a document and it told me to "Look for the paperclip icon or "Upload file' button in the chat box area", and it inserted a picture of Clippy after the "paperclip icon"! What's more, there was no paperclip of any sort in the chat box, so this was the kind of notoriously unhelpful help you would get from Clippy, and it was using a picture of Clippy to do so. There was actually a + sign in the chat box that uploaded documents. I wish I could upload a screenshot of it to show you. Surely this confirms your hypothesis.

Maybe because I was still a student being forced to take a basic typing class sold as a 'computer class,' but I have fond memories of Clippy and his pup cousin. We're they annoying and often off base? Yeah, but no one else was trying to show me how to do more than type without looking at my hands. Clippy was at least there to offer suggestions and drive awareness of capabilities, whether they were the right ones or not.
